Notes : It is a medicinal plant,  used as a spice.  For basil,  this one smells really nice and strong (scent holds up well in the heat also). Margin serrulate to subentire,  ciliate,  apex acute,  lateral veins 4- or 5-paired.  Flower racemes numerous,  crowded,  erect.  Flowers are small,  white,  with protruding stamens.  Required regular watering,  but avoid water stagnant.

American elder or Sambucus canadensis

Notes : A hardy tall shrub.  It is a bushy,  multi-stemmed,  wide spreading shrub with deciduous compound leaves,  and its brittle branches are pithy and soft.  Prefers full sun.  The star shaped white flowers are tiny,  but arranged in showy sprays.  Flower well in mild climate.
